Personal Identification Number (Norwegian ID Number)
As a general rule, a Personal Identification Number is a necessary precondition for the issuance of a Norwegian passport.
An application for a Personal Identification Number must be submitted in person at the Embassy. Almost all applications for a Personal Identification Number received at the Embassy, are submitted by the parents of Norwegian children born in Singapore.
When applying, the parents must bring the child to the Embassy. The following documents must be presented in support of the application:
The child's Birth Certificate showing the names of both parents.
Both parents' passports. This also applies if one of the parents is not a Norwegian citizen.
Please be advised that the normal processing time of applications for a Personal Identification Number about 5 weeks. Applicants will receive notification from the Embassy when the Personal Identification Number has been issued by the relevant authorities in Norway.
Please also not that the process should be started as soon as possible after the child is born. According to Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, you only have 42 days to complete the passport application and obtain a residence permit for your newborn child.
