The International Ibsen Scholarship 2009

Last updated: 29/07/2009 // The Ibsen Scholarship encourages critical debate about essential social, existential and aesthetic topics. The review panel is currently accepting applications. The deadline for submission is 1 May 2009.

The International Ibsen Scholarship was established by the Norwegian parliament in 2007. Scholarships are to be presented to individuals, organisations or institutions within the artistic and cultural community, who works in the “spirit of Ibsen”. The Ibsen Scholarship encourages critical debate about essential social, existential and aesthetic topics.

The Ibsen Award acknowledges and promotes artists that independently are taking initiative to communicate new messages to the public and that have chosen an artistic approach in the spirit of Henrik Ibsen's work. The Scholarships provided by the Ibsen Award seeks to support artists in countries where “independent art” has difficulties to obtain funding. The Ibsen Award promotes independent art worldwide, and has previously provided funding to theatre groups in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the United States.

The selection is decided by a review panel, and the presentation of the scholarship takes place during the annual Skien International Ibsen Conference. Artists are encouraged to submit their application before 1 May 2009.
