The annual Norwegian Seafood Dinner has been co hosted by the Royal Norwegian Embassy and Norwegian Business Association (Singapore) since 1999. The event, which has grown in popularity, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and is sponsored by the Norwegian Seafood Export Council and Scandinavian Airlines. This year 920 diners partook of the feast - mainly members of the Norwegian business community in Singapore and their invited business partners and friends.
The Seafood Dinner showcases Norwegian seafood at its prime – freshly flown in from Norway and skilfully prepared by local and Norwegian master chefs. The seafood is presented buffet style surrounded by magnificent ice sculptures – a veritable winter wonderland. It consisted of more than 100 hot and cold dishes. The talented chefs had specially created many of the delicious dishes – with some making their debut at the 2009 Seafood Dinner. The buffet also featured Live Cooking Stations where a team of Master Chefs prepare sumptuous hot dishes. The star attraction this year was Chef Geir Skeie – winner of the Bocuse d’Or 2009! The Bocuse d’Or competition was established in 1987 by the top French chef Paul Bocuse, and is today considered as the world championship for chefs. It is held every two years in Lyon in France.
Chef Skeie was accompanied by his mentor and coach, Chef Odd Ivar Solvold, who holds a bronze medal from the Bocuse d’Or 1997. Starring Chefs from Singapore were Chef Eric Teo, Executive Chef Mandarin Oriental, Chef Ivan Yeo and Chef Jason Tan. The latter is also a Bocuse d’Or Finalist who represented Singapore in 2009.
