Norwegian Youth Olympic Games participants visit the Seamen’s Mission in Singapore

A week into the Youth Olympic Games, which is the main happening in Singapore from August 14-26, the Norwegian YOG delegation made a visit to the Norwegian Seamen’s Mission on August 19.

At the Mission they met up with Minister Jan Tommy Fosse as well as representatives from the Norwegian Embassy and Innovation Norway. After learning a bit about Norway-Singapore relations and the activities of the Norwegian population in Singapore, it was time to mingle and enjoy Norwegian waffles and other snacks.

Also present during the visit were two students from Gausdal High School, a Pierre De Coubertin School, and a group of students from Fairfield Methodist School, their Singapore friendship school. The two students had been shown around Singapore by the Fairfield students, and had also been able to follow several of the Olympic events together with the Norwegian YOG delegation. Somewhat disappointed about having to leave already on August 20, they said that they had had a great time and would definitely like to visit Singapore again sometime in the future.

The five athletes were also very satisfied with their stay so far, and said that their experiences as participants in the YOG had been very positive. While the two young wrestlers have finished their disciplines and can take a well deserved break, the participants in sailing, swimming and shooting still have competitions coming up. Lavrans Solli, who has already secured a bronze medal in swimming, is competing in the 200m back on August 20. Harald Fæste is still in the race for a medal in sailing which concludes on August 25, and Malin Westerheim will participate in rifle qualifications and finals, also on August 25.

Watch the Norwegian athletes in action! Tickets are available at the venues, while the sailing events are free of charge. For more information, visit the YOG Singapore 2010 website.
