The “Norway-Asia Business Summit 2011”

Last updated: 06/10/2011 // The rapid growth in Asia is the hot topic in most international forums. Are Norwegian companies and businesses up to the challenge to let Asian opportunities become their opportunities?

With the theme being how the Nordic nations’ business community can stay relevant and grow further in Asia, this three days conference which took place in Singapore and was organised by the Norwegian Business Association in Singapore, gave a great opportunity to learn, share experiences, listen, discuss and network. The agenda was filled with top level speakers and panellists, which attracted over 200 participants. The panel discussions provoked lively debate on Norwegian business culture and experiences in Asia.

 

The Norwegian Ambassador, Janne Julsrud, was one of the opening speakers, followed by a variety of Norwegian companies and organisations such as Innovation Norway, Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Aker ASA and Telenor. Mr Tan Choon Shian, the Deputy Managing Director of Singapore Economic Development Board gave an interesting presentation of Singapore’s growth and economy in the context of Asia as a whole. The academic community was represented by the Norwegian professor Victor Norman and the visiting senior research fellow at Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Jørgen Ørstrøm Møller. Furthermore, eleven Norwegian ambassadors and consuls general participated together with the Norwegian business associations from around the region.

 

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from the participants and the event was declared a great success which emphasizes the importance Norwegian companies place on engaging with Asia.
