The exhibition "Ibsen in our Time" now available at the Esplanade

The Royal Norwegian Embassy and the National Library at the Esplande now host an exhibition about the Norwegian author and playwright Henrik Ibsen from December 13 to December 31 2006.

18/12/2006 :: The year 2006 marks the 100 centennary of the death of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) is one of the most renowned playwrights in history. He was instrumental in sparking the modern breakthrough in European intellectual life, and he is widely regarded as the father of modern drama.

The exhibition features posters exploring Ibsen's perceptive view of the relationship between the individual and society, and uses his plays as a basis for examining political issues that are still relavent today. The exhibition is supplemented with the library's collection of books by Ibsen and a documentary film featuring some of the world's most prominent Ibsen-interpreters.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has  through the whole year of 2006 coordinated activities abroad together with a large number of foreign service missions in cooperation with Norwegian and international groups that are associated with Ibsen. Events have taken place in more than 40 countries on 5 continents.

In Singapore the centennary has been marked by two performances by the interantionally renowned Ibsen interpreter Juni Dahr at the Black Box, Drama Center, National Library December 11 and 12 2006. The exhibition "Ibsen in our Time" is available at the National Library at the Esplanade until December 31.
